Keeping Fit While Traveling

With a little planning and creativity, staying active on the road becomes part of the adventure, not another item on your to do list.

Travel doesn’t mean you should hit pause on your fitness routine. This is the time of year when many people are traveling or are considering their summer travel plans. Make sure that you plan your fitness ahead of time so that you don’t come back from your travels feeling worse than when you left! Travel is about experiences, not perfection. The goal isn’t to do more, it’s to keep your body moving in ways that support your energy, mood, and confidence.

Make movement part of the adventure. Every step counts—and it adds up faster than you think.

• Walk the airport instead of sitting at the gate.

• Explore new places on foot whenever possible.

• Choose stairs over elevators when it feels right.

Use what you have. No equipment needed—just a little creativity.

• If your hotel doesn’t provide a gym or pool for guests, your hotel room can become a gym. Bodyweight exercises such as squats, push-ups, lunges, planks, or even marching in place can provide some fitness activity.

• Resistance bands are lightweight and take up hardly any room in your luggage. A towel can double as a stretch or resistance tool.

• Prioritize mobility and recovery by stretching after long flights or car rides, plan some sort of gentle movement in the morning and evening. Depending on what else you did during the day, a few deep breaths and stretches         can provide a reset for your body.

Keep workouts short and simple. Consistency beats long workouts you don’t have time for. Think of moving your body as a form of self-care.

• 10–20 minutes is more than enough.

• Focus on full-body movements.

• One quick session can boost energy for the entire day
