PHP Team Member Recognized with Innovation Award

Izaak Beck, PHP Senior Pharmacy Specialist, has been awarded PHP’s 2020 Innovation Award. He received the award in January at a PHP all-staff gathering.

Izaak Beck

Known for Personal Service

PHP is known for personal service and genuine concern for our customers and members. Encouraging staff to improve the ways in which PHP can deliver services and products ensures a constant focus on serving the needs of our customers and helps us remain responsive. PHP has found that investing time, effort, and resources in seeking out new and better approaches, gives us an advantage in a way our competitors cannot deliver.

PHP Innovation Award

The PHP Innovation Award, has become a way for leadership to acknowledge and encourage innovative and creative solutions to business problems, large and small. Submitted suggestions are reviewed each month by executive leadership. Suggestions may not be fully developed plans — some are simple thoughts, or “what ifs.” Annually, recognition is awarded to a PHP staff member through criteria established by the innovation committee and executive leadership team.

In 2020, Izaak Beck, PHP Senior Pharmacy Specialist truly embraced the concept of innovation and submitted multiple ideas throughout the year. What made Izaak’s effort stand out was the spirit in which he approached innovation. Even when an idea could not be implemented, for technical or other reasons, he continued to offer solutions. His thought was: One partial idea could always lead to additional ideas or solutions from someone else. Izaac suggested ideas that would improve his department and ideas that might impact the other areas of business.

Innovation’s Inspiration

In 2019 and 2020, PHP board member, Karl R. LaPan presented to PHP staff about entrepreneurship and innovation. His encouraging words became the foundation of PHP’s innovation award.

Karl reminded us that the best innovators are not defined by failures. Rather, they are defined by how they handle it. And, that failure is another word for education. There’s much to be learned from failure including, failure:

  • Builds character
  • Builds compassion
  • Builds resilience
  • Keeps us hungry and humble
  • Helps us overcome our fears
  • Recommits us to our purpose
  • Inspires our creativity
  • Strengthens our support network
  • Adds to our experience

Mark Cuban once said, “It doesn’t matter how many times you have failed, you only have to be right once.” Essentially, PHP is seeking lots of input, ideas, and solutions from a diversity of perspectives — ultimately producing positive change within our organization to better serve our customers.

As we move into 2021, PHP will continue to honor the corporate value of innovation by embracing an environment that encourages free thinking, new ideas, and a nimble response. You can learn more about PHP's mission and values here.
