  • PHP to offer $6,000 in scholarships for area high school seniors October 18, 2011

    Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, Inc., (PHP), a local managed-care organization, is providing scholarship opportunities for high school seniors planning to pursue a career in a health-related field. PHP will award a one-time scholarship of $3,000 to the first place winner; a one-time scholarship of $2,000 to the second place winner; and third place will receive a one-time scholarship of $1,000.   • Early Detection is Key in the Battle Against Breast Cancer October 12, 2011

    This year over 230,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.  According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death.  Through advancements in research, development of better diagnostic tools and treatment plans, breast cancer has a 93% survival rate when detected early.  Early Detection is Key 1.  Know your risk factors. There are controllable and uncontrollable risk factors.  Uncontrollable risk factors cannot be modified or changed.  Examples of uncontrollable risk factors are gender, age, genetic risk factors, family and/or personal history and race.  Controllable risk factors are those that we can modify or change.  Make lifestyle changes in an effort to reduce your risk of breast cancer: eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, limit alcohol and don’t use tobacco.  Other controllable risk factors that can potentially increase your risk of breast cancer include use of hormone ...

  • PHP Donates $50,000 to Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography August 25, 2011

    On Friday, August 19, Francine’s Friends announced they have launched a grassroots campaign to raise $50,000 in 50 days to fund the purchase of a new mobile mammography motor coach. Additionally, the dedicated volunteers of Francine’s Friends started this effort a few months ago by conducting a silent capital campaign during which PHP made a $50,000 contribution to support this project. A total of $320,000 is needed to purchase the new coach.   Francine’s Friends is a volunteer driven organization that brings high-quality, life-saving mammography screening to women across northeast Indiana at locations more convenient to their homes or workplaces. PHP has been a continued supporter of Francine’s Friends since the organization’s inception in 2005.   • PHP announces winners in their 2010-11 scholarship program June 01, 2011

    Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, Inc., (PHP), a local managed-care organization, concluded its 2010-11 Scholarship Program by honoring the following students: Cassie Perras of Lebanon placed first and receives a one-time scholarship of $3,000. Cassie will graduate from Lebanon High School and plans to attend Purdue University, where her major will be Pharmacy. Placing second in the program was Tanner Crandall of Fort Wayne, who receives a one-time scholarship of $2,000. Tanner will graduate from Homestead High School and plans to pursue Pre-Dentistry at Butler University. Sarah Lampman of Bluffton, placed third in the program, receiving a one-time scholarship of $1,000. Sarah will graduate from Bluffton-Harrison High School and plans to major in Nursing at Ball State University. This was the twenty-third year that PHP has provided scholarship opportunities to high school seniors who are pursuing a career in a health-related field.

    Obesity costs American employers $225.8 billion annually in lost productivity and over $3,000 in average annual healthcare costs per employee. These numbers are making a significant impact to an employer’s bottom line and they cannot afford to see the costs go any higher.
